Alcohol Rehab Programs do work
Alcohol rehab programs have been designed to assist an individual who has the disease of addiction. There are various types of therapy that are used to treat individuals that suffer from this very misunderstood condition. There is a stigma surrounding addicts in society, labeling them as criminals and mentally insane.
We at ARCA are aware that addiction is more than just a moral dilemma, it is a disease that needs to be corrected. Many addicted individuals will come into alcohol rehab programs when the pain of abusing alcohol becomes worse than the pain of not abusing alcohol. In other words, they hit their “rock bottom” and are “sick and tired of being sick and tired”. If an addicted individual does not feel any remorse or they defend their behavior, then it is time to stage an intervention.
There are steps that we need to take for an alcohol rehab program to work effectively:
An Intervention for Alcoholics
As mentioned above, an intervention is a necessary step when an addicted individual needs help. An intervention is when a group of concerned individuals intervene in the life of the person that’s behavior is destructive and they are not seeing it. Others can see that the addicted individual’s life is spinning out of control and do not want to enable the behavior. An ultimatum is set and boundaries are established with the addicted individual.
What happens in an intervention is that a group of concerned people confront the addicted individual and convince them to change their ways or get help within a rehab. Any group of people can stage an intervention, but it is important that they have assistance from a person in the know, such as a drug addiction counselor. After all, only a person who understands the mindset of the addicted person can get through to them.
Medical Detox
Medical detox is an important part of the recovery process for individuals who are addicted to alcohol. Cessation from alcohol brings about very uncomfortable and dangerous withdrawal symptoms. An addicted person will not be able to ease into recovery and therapy until all the toxins in their bodies have been removed safely.
Once the medical detox is done, the patient can partake in all the alcohol rehab programs, including:
- Group therapy
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy
- One on one counseling
- 12 step program
